I think it's definitely arguable that Apple owes the success of the iPod and iTunes at that time and place to Napster. I think the digital music "revolution" would have happened anyway, but the Napster issue really forced the music industry to come to grips with digital files. I think this is at least partially why the digital publishing market is so ridiculously fragmented.

I like this idea–using basically "thumbs up" or "thumbs down"—in terms of product reviews and would like to see it implemented on more than one site someday. It's too bad that everyone seems to have decided that the five-star scale is the only and/or best option.

Change is good. He's right in that it takes a lot more effort and a whole bunch of dedication to simply defend the status quo. Shake things up a bit.
