Releasing software grants you the ability to (a) receive feedback, and (b) receive money. Nothing is ever perfect. The problem is sometimes in delivering updates to fix things for people, but in general the point is well-taken.

A good question, but the main reason eBooks haven't taken off IMO is that the market is the most fractured one I've ever seen. Publishers need to pick a single, reflowable format and then stick with it. With good Unicode support.

I agree with this 100%. The largest flaw in the Kindle to date is its lack of support for the open EPUB standard and forcing lock-in with DRM'd books. The iTunes store has seen the light of so-called "social DRM". It's time for Bezos and company to step up to the plate.
