Whoops! Sorry about that.

Not realizing that I had done so, I mistakenly left an upgrade to the most recent beta build of WordPress in my directory without running the corresponding database upgrade; this left my site partially inaccessible for a decent portion of the afternoon.
I’m also running unstable WordPress code for the time being, so if things get [...]

Where Did Everything Go? And What Happened?

Long story short:
I’m moving the family stuff off Drupal and back to WordPress. There are two side effects to this change:

The Drupal-originating posts won’t be here for a little while as I work on exporting/importing them, which shouldn’t take all that long.
My entire archive, from the last six years, is now once again available as [...]

And to Think You Figured I Was Actually Going to Update This Thing Every Day From Now On

Yes, it’s true:
I was on a bit of a streak recently, what with the daily updates and all.
Appears that’s all come to a screaming halt.  Lots of things have been going down, and unfortunately, this kind of thing tends to take a backseat to other things in my life.  I am sure you can understand [...]

“goes back for around four years”

Well, I finally went and found a way to export all my old LiveJournal entries and shoehorn them into WordPress. Unfortunately, it’s going to take quite a lot of time to go through and edit them all and make sure that they are working in the WP system and not messed up.
On a cursory [...]

A work in progress.

Well, I had completely planned on finishing my redesign, and then I (and my wife) ended up getting sick last night, and it’s safe to say that I’ll now be catching up on schoolwork for a little bit instead of working on the redesign.
The new header graphic that I’ve replaced the original Kubrick one with [...]

Spring Break approacheth.

I’m sitting in class right now, and there’s not a whole lot to think about other than other things - I am able to take the notes I need while I multitask other thoughts and typing in other windows, and so I wanted to drop something in here so I could give people an idea [...]

Now with spam-catching goodness!

I’ve recently installed a good comment spam filter plugin for WordPress, so if you are a friend and your comments aren’t showing on the main page, then I would ask you to please e-mail me and I’ll try to figure why your comments aren’t making it through.
But the filter seems to be catching just about [...]

The new look

If you don’t like the new look or layout, don’t worry; it’s temporary (which is, of course, what I said about the last one).
This is the new default theme for WordPress 1.5, which I’ve decided to go back to CVS testing, since I am missing a lot of the functionality that came in when they [...]

Comment spam has driven me to the wall.

A rare holiday post!
(Heck, any post is rare at this point.)
I would just like to tell people who read regularly that I am going to be experimenting with only allowing registered users to access the blog in the near future. I’m not sure how this is going to work, but I may give it [...]

Invision Power Board is no longer free.

One of the best community-supported message board systems, Invision Power Boards, was once upon a time offered to people without support and with a copyright license for the wonderful price of zero dollars and zero cents.
Now, it seems as though they’ve gotten greedy and decided that the free version isn’t going to be offered anymore.
Guess [...]

Sorry about the goofy downtime - if you’ve been paying attention.

Turns out I won’t be using school e-mail to receive support e-mails from United Hosting anymore - the school spam filter managed to clean out all the e-mails they sent me about changing over their payment processing system.
But it’s all fixed now, with two overdue months paid as of today, and so the site is [...]

I have to tighten my spam filter.

I’ve been getting slammed with blogspam comments the last few days, which is something I don’t appreciate.
I mean, it would help if I wrote anything here from time to time, but life keeps me really busy, and not having an always-on internet connection with me at home keeps that down a little bit, to boot.
So [...]

ecto test post part deux

I’m just trying to make sure that the new version of ecto and the new nightly of WordPress work well together.
Nothing else special going on in this post.
Now playing: Awake My Soul from the album Back Home by Caedmon’s Call

server is apparently up again

Well, you know something was up when you check your provider’s uptime clocks and you see your cluster is at something on the order of seventeen minutes. They did kernel updates today, apparently, so it involved some shutdown time.
Since the majority of their customers are UK-based, that means that it tends to happen right [...]

my server’s b0rked

Looks like hornet.unitedhosting.com isn’t up and running with a full battery right now - things are either not showing up at all or showing up really goofy.
I asked them to install an ImageMagick-related perl mod - hope that’s not what’s causing the server instability.
The name server’s acting all weird, too - subdomains aren’t behaving correctly [...]

now that i look at it…

Did Movable Type get some kind of money deal with the TechTV folks?
I mean, it’s EVERYWHERE….

just a test entry

I’m just testing Movable Type to make sure it works OK.

Really, I’m Not Trying to Incite Flame Wars.

Well, I’m going to get my 3 hours of sleep now.
Latin is definitely going to be a challenge in the morning - and work is going to be even more interesting. At least I’m done at 4 on Tuesdays.
On a better note, I managed to get my ASP forum at least in some kind [...]

I Figured I’d Go Ahead and Start This Up.

Well, I’d been looking at this place for a while now, and figured that I’d go ahead and start up one of these journals, mostly because my personal website is still a few months off, and partly because I will not give this journal information out to everyone on the planet (who can look at [...]
