Durability: good. Malleability: bad.

I’ll get some pictures up in the near future (my wife confiscated the point and shoot digital yesterday), but my 17″ Powerbook G4 took a bit of a spill last week.

The little rubber feet on the bottom of the case - you know, the things that are supposed to stop it from sliding off a desk - came off relatively early in the life of the machine.

And so, when I tripped over the (admittedly short) power cable attached to my Powerbook, it came crashing down about two and a quarter feet off a desk onto a tile floor. It was only slightly mortifying.

The good news is that the computer itself is intact and working; there don’t seem to be any lasting problems with the mechanism. The only thing I haven’t tried is to burn a disc of some kind; I suppose I should try to burn out a DVD soon and make sure it’s working before I send it in for repair.

However, the case ended up getting pretty bent and dinged up. The screen sheath of metal is bent a little - I think I’m lucky that the LCD isn’t cracked in even a single place. It landed on its face with an open hinge; the hinge got torqued open a little bit, which is uncool because the latch isn’t as securely closed as it once was anymore. It handles all right for transport as long as it’s in my bag, though, which is the important thing.
