I made my first PowerBook-related purchases today, as part of the deposit I sent from my last paycheck finally made its way into my bank account.
The first purchase was for something I know I will be using in the next six months, and that is Keynote. I plan on using presentations for just about everything, from VBS to Bible classes to meetings, and I like the way Keynote’s interface looks. The only other software purchase I am planning on making this year (students can only make two per year from the Apple Store) is for the GarageBand Jam Pack, and that’s mostly because I think GarageBand is one of the neatest applications I’ve seen from any major software company (at that price, especially!) in a long time.
The second purchase was of a bag from Crumpler - I found a great deal on the Team Player. It’s hard enough to find a bag that fits a PowerBook 17, but I managed to find one that’s (relatively) affordable, looks like it will do a knock-down job of protecting the laptop, doesn’t look particularly like a computer bag, and is even somewhat stylish. The thing’s huge, though.
Oh, and I also sent my $10 to the seminary to get my copy of Office X. So I guess that’s three purchases.
I was hoping to be able to dump the cash on the laptop and have it in my hands this week, but I still don’t have my refund (it’s guaranteed to be in my account by the 30th of the month), and it takes 2-3 business days (not counting processing time) to get your laptop shipped to you anyway - depending on location. I’m just getting a stock 17, so it shouldn’t take so very long for the order to go out, but I don’t know from where the order will be shipping. It will probably ship from somewhere out near Cupertino, which would mean I wouldn’t get it until Friday or Monday at the earliest, if I ordered it tomorrow morning.
Bah.
I just realized not long ago that I’m going to have to find a copy of Photoshop CS for the Mac now, since I don’t want to be constantly switching from Mac to PC to get things done.
And probably a copy of Dreamweaver MX.
Switching might end up being more expensive than I thought - good thing I get a student discount for another year…
