I just thought I should update (which I haven’t done in a very long time anyway) and let you all know what’s going on - something not so great in the Markel life.
My wife has been hospitalized since Thursday night with preeclampsia-like symptoms, which I’ll elaborate on in a few. She’s fine at the moment, and I don’t believe there’s anything serious immanent, but I’m nontheless restless and pretty agitated about this whole thing.
Amanda is doing as well as can be expected - she’s never been in the hospital before, so she’s understandably shaken up and worried. Her blood pressure is erratic like I’ve never seen before - 120/67 one minute, and 190/95 the next. It’s weird. She was on IV drip last night to try and control the BP, and she’s pretty much just been placed in a controlled environment to make sure they get good readings as long as possible. We had a bio-check on the baby today, but he wasn’t cooperating with the ultrasound tech, so they’ve rescheduled for Monday. We’re not sure if they mean to keep her inpatient until then or not.
They took 24 hrs. worth of fluid samples, and they sent them to lab at 1630 today; we’re expecting those results tomorrow morning, and that will likely decide whether they’re going to induce labor this weekend or not. She’s at 36-1/2 weeks, so she’s close enough to full term that the baby will be OK. We’re both a little worried that developmental problems could have occurred because her BP could have been high for some time without anyone knowing it, but that’s the only thing that’s nagging at me right now.
Good to know that you guys are thinking about us; I’ve spoken to a couple of you already. If you want to chat up and/or just pass on support, you can call me (I’d prolly even appreciate it) - my home number is 314-646-7424 and my cell (which is on constantly right now) is 314-650-2669. I’ll likely be up most of the night, simply because it’s too hard to sleep when I don’t know what the hell is going on.
I’ll keep y’all informed.
